Verizon Wireless has officially unveiled the latest Windows Phone smartphone to join its lineup, introducing the new LG Lancet.
Rumors of an LG-made Windows Phone smartphone headed to Verizon have been intensifying lately, and the handset has now made its official debut. The new LG Lancet comes as Verizon's first Windows Phone offering to boast Advanced Calling 1.0, the carrier touted. This feature allows users to make HD calls when talking to another Verizon users with a smartphone that supports Advanced Calling.
"Whether you're new to smartphones or already have one, you always want it to be a smooth experience and feel like you've got some of the latest technology in your hand. The LG Lancet has high-end smartphone features in an affordable and simple-to-use device," touts Verizon Wireless.
The new LG Lancet runs Windows Phone 8.1 with its popular software treats, including the much-touted Cortana digital assistant, but its hardware specifications are not exactly stellar.
More specifically, the Verizon-exclusive LG Lancet sports a 4.5-inch LCD display with an unspecified resolution, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a VGA front shooter. Verizon makes no mention of RAM or display resolution, but more details should come to light shortly.
The LG Lancet will also come with 25GB of Verizon Cloud Storage for More Everything customers, and boast the LG Knock On and Quick Memo features. Knock On allows users to quickly turn on the smartphone's display simply by double-tapping on the screen, while Quick Memo allows for easy and quick screenshots.
The smartphone is XLTE-ready and is now available for purchase online from Verizon's website, while retail stores will start offering it on May 21. The LG Lancet costs $5 per month for 24 months on Verizon Edge, or $120 at full retail price. For a limited time, customers who bring their number to Verizon will also receive a $100 bill credit within 2-3 bill cycles for each new handset activated on Verizon Edge.
