Apple Watch now getting its first OS upgrade – Here’s the deal

The much-touted Apple Watch hasn't even been on the market that long, but it's already receiving its very first update now.

The Apple Watch finally went on sale in April after a long wait, but hasn't exactly seen the big release some were hoping for. Apple launched its gadget in somewhat limited quantities, and some Apple Watch fans had to go through hoops to acquire the smartwatch. Nevertheless, those who did manage to purchase the device may be glad to know an update is now coming their way.

Cupertino has officially started rolling out Apple Watch OS 1.0.1, which will bring performance improvements, bug fixes, and additional language support to its wearable.

In addition to improvements to Apple's popular digital assistant, Siri, the update will also enhance performance for measuring stand activity, distance and pace when walking or running outdoors, as well as accurate calculations for calories when doing indoor cycling and rowing workouts. Moreover, Apple Watch OS 1.0.1 will bring better third-party apps, display support for new emoji characters, and support for Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Thai, and Turkish languages.

As Apple itself points out, before proceeding with this update users are strongly advised to make sure their Apple Watch is connected to a power source and stay connected until the download is complete. One you have finished downloading the file, open the Watch app on your iPhone, access My Watch > General > Software Update, and enter any passcodes when required. From here on, just wait for the Apple logo and progress bar to appear, and keep in mind that your Apple Watch will automatically restart when the update is all done.

As always with software updates, make sure your device has at least 50 percent left of battery life and that your iPhone is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network and nearby the Apple Watch so the whole update process goes smoothly and without interruptions.

That said, Apple Watch 1.0.1 is now officially available with several improvements so grab the update, see how it goes, and drop by our comment section below and tell us how it all fares.
