NVIDIA Shield Tablet owners are in for a neat treat, as the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop is now rolling out to the slate.
The new software update will bring a number of improvements to performance and responsiveness, as well as security, aiming to enhance the overall performance of the powerful NVIDIA Shield Tablet. In addition to the typical Android 5.1 improvements such as an enhanced quick-settings meu, better profile management, and others, the update will also bring support for Android for Work.
Android 5.1 Lollipop is available for the device as the SHIELD Tablet Software Update 3.0, and will bring the following changes:
- Improved performance and responsiveness
- Improved security, complete with support for Android for Work
- Better profile management, enhanced quick-settings menu
- Improved display performance
- Enabled Global Tone Mapping feature (users will be able to toggle this feature on/off)
- New firmware for the NVIDIA Shield controller
- Enhanced pairing experience, plus other optimizations
- System wide improvements to camera, audio, modem (LTE only), and other fixes
NVIDIA further notes that users can update the Shield controller over Wi-Fi, after they receive a notification on their Shield Tablet.
As a reminder, the NVIDIA Shield Tablet sports an 8-inch 1080p display, and a powerful NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM under the hood. The gaming tablet comes in a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, has a neat stylus, and is available in both Wi-Fi and LTE models.
"The world's fastest mobile processor. Unbeatable tablet graphics, video, and audio. The most advanced, responsive stylus. And the freedom to pair with the optional SHIELD controller for ultimate gaming control. The SHIELD tablet delivers everything you need to get the most from your games, movies, and apps," reads the description on the tablet's product page.
The new Android 5.1 Lollipop update follows the previous upgrade to Android 5.0, which hit the slate back in November. The NVIDIA Shield Tablet was one of the first devices to get a taste of Lollipop back then, and the latest Android 5.1 version will now improve the experience even further.
NVIDIA has already started rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop to its Shield Tablet, so the update should arrive momentarily if it hasn't already. Once you receive the treat, make sure to drop by our comment section below and let us know how it fares.
