Apple's latest update to its operating system for the Apple Watch was supposed to be released alongside iOS 9. However, the Cupertino-based company inevitably pushed it back after the discovery of an unspecified bug. Now that the first major update to the Apple Watch is ready, users can now download and enjoy several new features, including added security measures for iOS devices, customizations and native third-party support.
The major update that was originally announced at Apple's WWDC is definitely what the Apple should have been when it launched. Apple's accessory comes with new watch-faces to choose from. It even comes with faster, more powerful apps, enhanced communication options, as well as powerful customization tools for deeper personalization.
Users can choose from a selection of time-lapse videos of the most iconic places around the world -- cities such as New York, Paris and Hong Kong. There are also options for setting an image from the Photo app as a watch-face, as well as choosing a photo album to make things more dynamic.
Complications, also known as a timepiece feature, are more customizable. Users can add important pieces of information such as the weather or world clock. Other options include monitoring flights and other home devices with Insteon.
TimeTravel also allows users to turn the Apple Watch's Digital Crown to see events that have already happened and future agendas that are scheduled. The weather for at a later time or date can also be viewed, and users can check hard hitting news headlines should they miss any.
Apple also adds a minimalistic and useful feature to the Apple Watch. Users can now use it as a night clock by simply connecting it with the charger. The Apple Watch will automatically go into Nightstand mode and display the time, and pressing the Digital Crown will illuminate it.
watchOS 2 also brings native support for apps -- apps load much quicker as they run entirely on the Apple Watch now. Also, several apps such as Strava, Ping and Insteon makes full use of the hardware.
The Apple Watch brings new functions to its primary features. Users can now reply to e-mails with voice dictation, add multiple Friends screen, create more colorful sketches, get more information with Transit, use more cards with Apple Pay and ask Siri for more information. Apple has also included an Activation Lock for the Apple Watch to keep its user's data safe should it gets lost or stolen.
