The problems of “Dead Island 2” seems to be getting worse. It was noticed that the game's listing on Steam has been deleted. The game is now known as “Unknown App 268150.” This has fueled rumors online that the game, which has faced many problems in the past, has been canceled.
Backtracking to April 2015, it was announced that the game would be delayed significantly. It was not such a big issue then as delays were expected with sequel games releases. However, when publisher Deep Silver booted out Yager Development, speculations rose about the game's future, PC Gamer reported.
Techland had expressed interest in resuming the halted progress of Yager Development but that did not bear any fruit. Then, earlier this year, it was announced that Sumo Digital was now in charge of “Dead Island 2,” which was met with mixed reviews.
The deletion of “Dead Island 2” on the Steam database has further strengthened the speculation that the game is now dead in the water. However, there were some who commented that the game was not canceled but simply awaiting a “re-reveal.”
A possible reason for the confusion is that the Steam page was based on Yager Development's ideas for the game. Now that Sumo Digital is handling the development of the game, the very tone of the game has changed. The “Dead Island” series is known to be dark and “Dead Island 2” was supposed to take on a lighter tone, Attack of the Fanboy reported.
Yager Development spent a good three years working on “Dead Island 2.” When they were kicked out, it was also reported that the sequel would then take improved gameplay borrowed from original developer Techland's “Dying Light” series of games.
The “Dead Island: Definitive Collection” is also coming out tomorrow. It is truly strange if “Dead Island 2” had really been canceled especially since this remastered version of highly successful games (plus a bonus game) is coming out very soon.
