A Kotaku reporter received death threats and hostile messages on social media site Twitter, following the rumored delay of the open-space exploration game, "No Man's Sky". Hello Games' director, Sean Murray has also been receiving angry Tweets due to the delay. In an interesting development, Twitter has chosen to do nothing about the aggressive tweets.
Jason Schreier previously reported about the rumor that "No Man's Sky" was being delayed. Apparently, a source working for Gamestop had stated that promotional posters for the game were revealed with the original June 21 release date on it.
The said source reported that they were ordered to put a sticker on the dates to cover them, as the June release date was no longer correct. Murray has since confirmed the rumor, stating that the release will be moved to August.
Kotaku's correspondent received tweets from angry "No Man's Sky" fans, with some even going as far as giving out grave threats. "@Kotaku I'll find out where you live and murder you and your family," Twitter user Beach Clashers posted on the social media site after the article was posted.
The said user also sent Schreier a direct message on Twitter. "Sounds like you have a death wish. We will find you." the user told the Kotaku reporter.
Schreier then reported this to Twitter for abusive behavior but was surprised that the microblogging site did not do anything about the matter, saying that the reported Tweets did not violate the Twitter rules.
However, Twitter took its verdict back and decided to ban the user from the site after four hours. Hello Games' Murray also confirmed that he received death threats following the announcement. Murray posted a lighthearted message on his own Twitter account. "Don't worry, Hello Games now looks like the house from Home Alone," the game studio founder joked.
"No Man's Sky" will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe on August 10, and in the UK on August 12.
