Samsung's Gear Fit 2 Review

Samsung's new Gear Fit 2 is a follow-up of the original Samsung Gear Fit launched in 2014.

The Gear Fit 2 activity tracker wristband comes with an updated design, giant display, the ability to automatically recognize certain activities and built-in GPS. According to The Verge, the first noticeable change in the new Samsung Gear Fit 2 is its size. The wristband is more flexible than the original Gear Fit, but it is also bigger.

At 1.5 inches, the super AMOLED display is twice as wide as the prior model. Samsung designed the display in Gear Fit 2 with maximum visibility in mind. Users do not have to turn their wrist to view a horizontal display, as all of the data are displayed vertically on their wrist.

Digital Trends notices that, while most fitness trackers are sporty and not very stylish, Samsung's Gear Fit 2 comes with great aesthetics. The large color screen set in a silicon band curves elegantly to sit comfortably on the user's wrist. Its design can fit a button-up shirt and a suit as well as a T-shirt and jeans.

The wider 1.5-inch curved AMOLED screen is easy to navigate, and the watch face is customizable. The inevitable tradeoff of having a wider screen is that Gear Fit 2 is a wider device. But Samsung did make an effort to appease women by offering a magenta pink color and small band size.

Samsung has implemented some smartwatch features in the Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker. For example, users can choose to display on the device any notification that appears on their Android phone. This way, Gear Fit 2 could notify users on calls, texts and calendar alerts. The gadget can also be used to send canned replies or emojis.

In addition to these smartwatch-like features, the Samsung's fitness tracker comes with GPS, a barometer and a heart rate monitor. The screen provides real-time data while exercising, tracking user's steps, calories burned, distance traveled, sleep and other common fitness stats.

The Gear Fit 2 is definitely less chunky than the average smart fitness watch, and it is even water resistant with an IP68 rating. When users combine its looks with its outstanding specs and functionality, Samsung's activity tracker starts looking like a good deal.
