'The Division' Update: No Room For Cheaters, Ubisoft's New Ban Policy

In order to improve player experience, it is important for video game developers to resolve issues pertaining to cheating. And yes, this is exactly what will happen to "The Division" courtesy of Ubisoft. The studio plans to implement a permanent ban to players who are caught cheating.

According to IGN, Ubisoft is taking further steps to improve the experience of "The Division" players. In the game's official blog, the studio expresses that delivering quality player experience has been their very goal since day one. Hence they will go for the extra miles and find ways to improve the titular open world third-person shooter game.

The decision to impose permanent bans to first offence cheaters rooted from "The Division" community. But of course, the developers themselves have also witnessed the exploitations when the cheaters came back to the game.

Moving forward, Ubisoft will implement such rule when cheating "The Division" players are caught utilizing cheat engines. While this seems to be a permanent solution, the studio said that they are still set to communicate new ban rules to the game's player pool.

BBC, on the other hand, notes that the company's move resulted to a total of 30,000 accounts being affected. And with this figure, over 3,800 people have reportedly been removed from "The Division" permanently.

It is worth noting that the studio's previous policies -- particularly the short-term ban policy -- did not sit well with most fans. Hence they were heavily criticized by the community in various social media platforms. One main reason is the studio's reluctance to properly punished "The Division" cheaters.

And consequently, the company realized that the short-term policy was indeed ineffective and not "dissuasive enough." This led to the new policy, the permanent ban, in hopes to trample down cheating players who are abusively violating "The Division" rules.

Ubisoft now joins a growing number of game developers that are taking hard line moves to tackle cheaters. This, in one way or anothe, should indeed improve "The Division" player experience.
