Last year, Google partnered up with Huawei and LG Electronics to create the Nexus 2015 phones. Huawei manufactured the Nexus 6P, while LG took care of the Nexus 5X. However, the Nexus 6P was much more powerful than the Nexus 5X. Other than this, Google's strategy was very much the same as Apple's when the phones launched. Now Google is following up the same with a double release again, the HTC Marlin and HTC Sailfish.
According to BGR, the release of the two phones is not the only thing Google's adopting from Apple this time around. While the company released relatively different phones last year, the 2016 Nexus phones will reportedly have the same specs, which is how Apple releases its iPhone line now.
The only difference between Apple's 2016 flagship models is that the larger units generally have better resolution, as well as a larger screen and more battery power. For Google, the HTC Sailfish will be the smaller unit.
The HTC Marlin is expected to have a 5.5-inch screen with a Quad HD Amoled display and a 2560 x 1440 resolution, as The Christian Times reports. The phone will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm processor. It will have 4 GB of RAM and an option for internal storage of either 32 GB or 128 GB.
The HTC Marlin is going to come with a USB Type-C port and a fingerpring sensor that is mounted on the back of the unit. The rear camera will be 12 megapixels, while the front camera will be 8 megapixels. It will also have bottom speakers, a 3450mAh battery and Bluetooth 4.2.
On the other hand, the HTC Sailfish will have a slightly smaller 5 inch screen. It will have the same quad-core Qualcomm processor and 12 megapixel and 8 megapixel cameras. Additionally, it will have 4 GB of RAM, a USB Type-C port and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Pricing and launch dates are still up in the air at this point, but both the HTC Marlin and HTC Sailfish are expected to hit the markets before the year ends.
