'Dark Souls 3' Director Sees Game As A Major 'Turning Point,' Still Open To Making Sequels

"Dark Souls 3" was first launched in March this year, accumulating a total of 3M shipped copies. This figure alone set a new record for the whole franchise. It holds true, however, that the title is expected to receive two more expansions, as developer FromSoftware has no plans of creating news ones for the time being anyway. For director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game has reached its final stages. Even so, there are still possibilities in the future.

Two more "Dark Souls 3" are expected to be released by the studio. One will arrive this Fall, while the other on 2017. With a doubt, fans want more. They have seen what a massive hit the series could be, thus adding more contents is what they are after.

Around April this year, FromSoftware's very own Miyazaki revealed their plans of developing a brand new IP. The IP will be totally different from "Dark Sous 3" or the rest of the series combined. While this could be an interesting road to take, this has certainly disappointed the title's community in one way or another.

In an interview with GameSpot, Miyazaki deems "Dark Souls 3" as the main "turning point" in the franchise. That coining it as one is due to the fact that there are still endless possibilities to take in the coming days or so. For him, using the term "finish" could mean that the whole series is done as in completely finished. And this is something that he personally avoids.

Nonetheless, Miyazaki claimed that the success of "Dark Souls 3" has opened lots of opportunities for him and the rest of the team. That somehow, in one way or another, they have learned a huge amount of lessons to consider when making new games in the future.

Simply put, the studio is still open to making "Dark Souls 3" follow-ups and/or sequels. However, as to where it stands today, their blueprints suggest that the game is bound to acquire two more expansions.

The first "Dark Souls 3" is believed to offer fans some brand new items, as reported by Christian Today. From weapons to armors to new sorts of enemies, these will all be included in the forthcoming content. As for the existence of "Dark Souls 4," it continues to be a mystery.
