5 Reasons The Apple iWatch Is Outselling Samsung's Smartwatches

The numbers for the second quarter smartwatch sales are in. It is, at this point, no surprise that Apple is still leading the competition. What may be surprising, however, is just how towering Apple is compared to Samsung.

According to Mac Rumors, Apple sold around 1.6 million units of the Apple Watch in the time covering March - June this year. This number, which translates to 47 percent of the market, securely places Apple at the top of the leader board. Meanwhile, Samsung sold 600,000 units, which is 16 percent of the market share. With Samsung being second place, Apple's share is almost three times larger than its closest competition.

Although, the numbers also show that Apple's year-over-year growth actually declined. In comparison to the second quarter of last year, Apple's numbers have declined by 55 percent. However, it should be noted that the Apple Watch was released in the second quarter of 2015, so the numbers were of course at an all time high. Meanwhile, Samsung's market share increased by 51% in comparison to 2015. This means that the Korean tech giant is slowly but surely securing its spot in the smartwatch industry as well.

For now, however, there is no denying that Apple is leading. And as Wearable notes, it is because of some particular features that Apple just has over Samsung:

1. Options, options, options

The Apple watch is available in so many different varieties. Whether a consumer is sportier, or is completely brand conscious, Apple has them covered. In fact, it comes in almost 50 variations, including the different sizes and finishes.

2. Analogue Design

Most of Apple's competitors have opted for a touchscreen display. However, Apple has kept it simple by going analog. The Digital Crown of the Apple Watch acts as a home button, and can be rotated in order to scroll.

3. Display

The Apple Watch has an OLED display. For the 42mm version, there is 390 x 272 pixel resolution. Meanwhile, the 28mm option has a resolution of 340 x 272 pixels.

4. Focused software

The Apple Watch zooms in on two aspects and excels in them. That is, the Activity app which records the user's health and overall wellness. Meanwhile, the Workout App keeps tabs on heart rate, distance covered and the like.

5. Apps

There are more available apps to connect the Apple Watch with, primarily because Apple took the time to develop and enhance the watchOS. As such, over 10,000 apps are currently compatible with the device.
