Nate Diaz recently claimed that his victory over Conor McGregor in the UFC 196 bout made officials realized his true value in their mixed martial arts organization.
Conor "The Notorious" McGregor was a heavy favorite over Diaz during their match up held last March. Many were surprise when Diaz managed to forced McGregor to submit by the second round. The two will once again battle each other in a rematch scheduled on August 20 at UFC 202. The mixed martial artists will meet at the Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena. Television viewers could watch the rematch via pay-per-view.
Diaz said that he was the top honcho in the UFC until McGregor appeared in the scene, according to MMA Junkie. Many fans would doubt such claims. But there is no doubt that Diaz tried to find ways on how to be a commercially valuable fighter in the UFC scene.
His commercial quest even led him to a quarrel with the UFC officials over a disagreement regarding his contract some years ago. But that disagreement has long been since patch up. Diaz boasted that he got half a million dollars as prize money for his victory over McGregor.
However, McGregor said that Diaz would not have enjoyed such cash bounty if the March match up had not pushed through. Such statement did not sit well with Diaz. In a media interview, Diaz said that unlike him, McGregor took a "shortcut" on the way to fame and fortune in UFC circuit.
Meanwhile, McGregor has managed to ruffle the feathers of the many World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) players and their fans after he made a disparaging remark about them. The WWE superstars replied through social networks such as Twitter, according to Sky Sports.
Numerous insults were hurled against the UFC superstar. Later on, McGregor issued a follow tweet post. He apologized to the WWE fans and clarified that he will, "slap the WWE stars' head off and he will do it twice on Sunday."
