VR Start-up Founded By Former Destiny Developers Has Been Funded $3.5M

Polyarc Games, a start-up VR studio based in Seattle, announced this week that their company raised $3.5 million coming from Series A round of funding. Reported by Gamasutra, the VR startup plans to utilize that pile of cash to build a number wide-audience-based virtual reality games, they also claim that it would be "accessible and appealing" to everyone.

Is 35 million enough?

What's important to take note is that this certain amount of money is not much when investing in the video game industry, compared to major players that have at least 5 times of the said amount to start with. This might mean that challenges ahead for Polyarc games are definitely coming, squeezing each cent to count. After all, this is a start-up company and that's what start-ups do, be resourceful with what you have if you are not backed up by major publishers.

Polyarc Games was founded a year ago by ex- Bungie developers Danny Bulla and Tam Armstrong. Another Bungie developer, Chris Alderson, left his job to join the duo. These developers have significant experience with the game industry before they met developing Destiny, no pun intended. While working with the online shooter, these developers have been also working as conslutants to Oculus, which eventually gave them the idea to create a start-up VR studio now known as Polyarc Games .

"From the moment we first saw VR prototypes our minds have been racing with the possibilities for intuitive interaction in games," Armstrong expressed in a press release during the funding round announcement.

It may seem that the studio is still on its very early stages of development, however, Polyarc Games intends to launch its first game late 2017. But then again, as Shigeru Miyamoto would say: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
