PlayStation 4 And Xbox One Consoles To Get Hardware Update To Support VR, 4K Tech

Sony's event is just hours away and fans are hyped. Everyone is expecting a more powerful PlayStation 4 that can support 4K and VR. The Xbox One is also expected to get hardware updates to support the same technologies. Here is what is known so far about the two consoles:

PlayStation 4 Neo And Slim

According to previous reports, the PS4 will come in two variants - the PS4 Neo and the PS4 Slim. The PS4 Neo was announced to be more expensive than the current console and it was also said that the device has 4K support. It will also give players a smooth virtual reality experience using the PlayStation VR.

The PlayStation 4 Slim, on the other hand, is not yet confirmed. But several leaks came out supporting its existence. However, it was said that the revision that would be given to the PS4 Slim will be the same as what the Xbox One S got. Basically, what is expected is from the PS4 Slim is for it to be made lighter and smaller. Its internal specs are expected to remain the same. If any, the only internal upgrade the PS4 Slim will get is 4K and HDR playback support.

The PS4 is expected to launch early 2017

Xbox One Project Scorpio

The Xbox One, on the other hand, is also expected to come with major upgrades. According to The Verge, Microsoft's Xbox One labeled 'Project Scorpio' will be capable of supporting 4K games and virtual reality experiences. Microsoft's official unveiling of the new console also revealed that the new Xbox One will have six teraflops of graphical power. Microsoft describes the new device as 'more than just a refresh'.

According to the Xbox One team, the Scorpio is a dramatic step when it comes to hardware improvements. The company wanted to bring 4K and VR to consoles, especially now that these technologies are already entering the PC space. Furthermore, they also said that when the new Xbox One ships, it would be 'the most powerful console ever built'.

As for the release of the Xbox One Project Scorpio, no specific date has been set yet. But it is expected that the new console will be released next fall.
