2016 has been an awesome year to be a gamer, well for the most of it at least. Like most of the past years, we haven't reached perfection, among this year's much anticipated and hyped games, there are some who decided to be way off target. Making gamers anxious with very long dev cycles, a bunch of broken promises, over-buffed trailers, we've all been there.
For us to look back and learn not to do it again, here are the reported most disappointing video games of 2016.
MIGHTY NO. 9
What went wrong? 3 years in excruciating development with Keiji Inafune doing the character design, this crowdfunded, spiritual successor to our beloved Mega Man supposedly was to quench our thirst for an extraordinary robot side-scrolling adventure. Unfortunately, multiple delays got in the way leading it to have poor ideas being executed. To add injury, it has been deemed with the phrase: "better than nothing" called by Inafune himself.
HOMEFRONT: REVOLUTION
Being passed around to multiple devs, this is not a good sign. This product failed to satisfy gamers, and is reported to be not even a fully functional shooter. Not really worth your time.
TMNT: MUTANTS IN MANHATTAN
A game Turtle fans had hoped for turned out to have a fighting aspect that tends to bore gamers. It is reported to be lifeless and hollow. A total 'shellshock'.
MIRROR'S EDGE CATALYST
Its direction gave the impression that it went to the opposite of what fans have expected. With a barren and lifeless environment and a dash of boring side-content, no thanks, next please.
QUANTUM BREAK
A hype for Alan Wake fans, has some superb ideas, and executed well, yet you feel that it doesn't work the way it was originally told. Xbox One version worked decently but the PC port has poor technical performance. Should have stuck with an Xbox One exclusive.
STREET FIGHTER V
No problem on multiplayer concept, hands down awesome fighting experience. But no story mode? Unstable online performance? Add a dash of 'just released because of deadline'? And yet sell for $60?
STAR FOX ZERO
Everybody loves Starfox. But this is 2016, the graphics gave us the impression that we are still in 2007. Not sure if intentional or not, but it failed to wow most fans.
NO MAN'S SKY
One of the most hyped games turned out to be a very good game, for the first few hours, then it starts to collect your hatred. It seems that a mathematically produced game doesn't work for everyone.
