FromSoftware's Dark Souls is without a doubt one of the greatest franchises ever developed in the history of gaming. Since the first title's release, it grew to be a formidable force to be reckoned. Acquiring sales after sales, the studio saw a great market success. Hence it wouldn't be a surprise if the company chooses to follow such footstep for brand new projects.
It has long been confirmed that the current installment will be the third and last title in the Dark Souls franchise. Heck, even after the second DLC, players can expect no forthcoming contents. FromSoftware has already iterated in the past their aim to bring brand new IPs.
According to Metro, the master mind behind Dark Souls Hidetaka Miyazaki has finally shed some light on what the three upcoming projects are all about. The big reveal happened in his recent interview with 4Gamer.net, though it was all in the Japanese language. Fortunately, translations were acquired through NeoGAF, giving the community a clearer view of what FromSoftware is currently up to.
The first project is said to be an action-role playing game, equipped with a setting (dark fantasy) akin to that of the Dark Souls franchise. The only catch is that the developers will give it a very unique angle. The second project, on the other hand, will be basically a reboot of an existing franchise. Nonetheless, the ideas it'll have are also heavily inspired by the aforesaid series as well as other previous franchise.
As for the third project, it's believe to be somewhat different from Dark Souls as a whole. That it'll be something unique from what the studio has been doing for over the course of its existence. For Hidetaka Miyazaki, it's "a bit weird."
Rumor has it that project 1 could simply be a follow-up to the third Dark Souls title, though most fans believe otherwise with the reason as stated above. Meanwhile, Project 2 will be a reboot of the titular Armored Core franchise, a third-person shooter game. Lastly, Project 3 could likely be the much talked about VR title that FromSoftware is rumored to be working on.
