Rumors suggest that Xiaomi might introduce Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology in their upcoming flagship smartphone Mi 5S.
Xiaomi Mi 5S With Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor Technology
Phone Arena reports that a director of Chinese studies at analyst company IHS apparently has announced on an Asian social network that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5S will integrate Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint technology developed by Qualcomm. If this will prove true, it would be an innovative solution. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology could recognize the user's fingerprint by using ultrasonic waves. After scanning, a 3D model of the fingerprint is build by the Sense ID system.
An obvious advantage of this new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology is that it could work through various materials, including glass, sapphire, steel and some plastics. Due to the great diversity of mediums that allow using this technology, the Sense ID system can function almost anywhere on the surface of the mobile device.
Allegedly, this means Xiaomi will be able to position the fingerprint scanner under the phone's glass front panel and users could possibly touch the screen anywhere in order to unlock their device. According to previous reports, the Xiaomi Mi 5S will come with 6 GB of RAM and will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 821 chipset. Gizmo China reports that Xiaomi Mi 5s will come with an Andreno 531 GPU and will run an Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system that will be embellished with MIUI 8.
The upcoming mobile device is also rumored to feature a 5.15-inch pressure-sensitive display with 1080p resolution and a dual camera setup made by Samsung that is expected to bring an improvement over the Mi 5's camera sensors. The Mi 5S had managed to get a total score of about 150K points on tech evaluation site AnTuTu.
Tech experts consider Xiaomi's Mi 5S as one as one of the most technologically advanced smartphones of 2016's second half. However, this is going to be an Asian launch and it is unknown at the moment when the flagship mobile device will be available on the global market.
