It's no secret that the Cali Cartel will take the spotlight when "Narcos" returns for its third season. With all the possible plots circulating online, fans can get a gist of what to expect when Gilberto Orejuela takes over Pablo Escobar.
According to reports, the notorious Cali Cartel will showcase a more complicated reign in "Narcos" Season 3. With the group being too involved in the system, their operations might appear "legitimate" thus making it more complicated particularly to authorities.
"Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman elaborates in an interview how the Cali Carter differs from Pablo Escobar, saying, "Pablo was protected by the people who loved him and Cali was protected by a political and economic system that they had rather ingeniously built," Newman also added the group is "a different kind of villain."
As cited by the PBS, the Cali Cartel patterned their operations similar to terrorists by "separating their workers into cells, with each cell knowing little about other employees." Apparently, the cartel had lawyers, businessmen, engineers and other professionals in their roster. It is expected that "Narcos" Season 3 will depict the same stories that will further explain how the Cali Cartel became a dangerous group.
On the other hand, it is also speculated that the Los Pepes will make a comeback in "Narcos" Season 3. To recall, the Cali Cartel utilized the said vigilante group against Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel. Following the death of Pablo Escobar, the Los Pepes temporarily disbanded as their mission to take down the kingpin was supposedly over.
However, the Los Pepes were allegedly restored by the Colombian government and eventually expanded their group as they continue to provide intelligence reports about the drug trade. The group was also believed to have infiltrated the Mexican drug trade which is a perfect segue to Mexico's El Chapo in "Narcos" Season 4.
As of this writing, there has been no confirmation whether these speculations are true or not. For now, it's best to wait for the show's official confirmation before jumping to any conclusion. Fans of the hit series will get to see more of these guys when "Narcos" Season 3 returns on Netflix.
