A tweet and a live stream confirming that Gears of War will have its own silver screen adaptation just surfaced on the internet. This has been an age-old rumor ever since the Gears franchise started alongside Bioshock and Halo film adaptations which are now obsolete. First announced in 2007, there have been no updates and fans have been longing for any drop of information.
Video game to movie adaptations has had a negative impression on fans, starting from when they came out back in the days. If there's one movie coming out from a video game you can bet it would either flop or have low critic scores. Despite the negativity, there are some movies that are worth your time, we listed 7 for you to chill upon over the weekend.
Just hours ago, a slight ray of hope has shined upon optimistic fans as Rod Fergusson, development head for The Coalition, has announced that the movie is definitely going to happen. The exciting announcement happened during the Gears of War 4 live stream today, which you can confirm on the video below:
On top of that, a tweet has confirmed that Microsoft will partner up with Universal Pictures to create the movie adaptation for Gears of War. As tweeted by @majornelson also known as Larry Hyrbs below:
Producers on the project were also announced in a press release following the announcement
"Scott Stuber ("Ted" series, "Central Intelligence") and Dylan Clark ("Planet of the Apes" series, "Oblivion") will produce for their Universal-based Bluegrass Films. In addition, Executive Vice President of Production Jon Mone will oversee the project for Universal and Senior Vice President Jay Ireland will oversee for Bluegrass."
It is obvious that the project is still on its early phases, so as of this writing, there would be no information on who will portray the characters or who will direct the film, not even the start date of production. But looking on the bright side, at least we are stepping in the right direction and it is inevitable that more information will come our way.
The next step would be casting and the biggest question will obviously be 'Who will play Marcus Fenix?' As the character is very well known in the gaming universe, the search for the 'perfect' actor will be critical.
What to do in the meantime?
To keep you in hype, Gears of War 4 will be hitting stores Oct. 11. The game now focuses on Fenix's son and his colleagues, years after the events of Gears 3. The game will also feature Microsoft Play Anywhere which means you get 2 copies, Xbox One and Windows 10, by just purchasing either of them. The game is also HDR ready in case you decide to get the Xbox One S over the holidays.
