The Windows 10 Redstone 2 is Microsoft's next major update. According to different sources, this update will be launched Spring of 2017 and will be run by the next Surface devices.
Furthermore, it was said that Redstone 2 has already been rolled out to Insiders for testing purposes, with PCs getting it first and mobile builds receiving it next. It has been quite established that the new Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 will both run Windows 10 Redstone 2.
However, with the update's 2017 launch date, it goes to show that the new Surface devices will also be pushed for a 2017 release. This debunks earlier rumors of a possible 2016 Surface launch.
Windows 10 Redstone 2 New Features
Included in Redstone 2's new features are the Office Hub, Working Sets, OneClip and OneDrive File Placeholders, Windows Central reported. The Office Hub will primarily work to integrate Office 365 to Windows 10 to make email, calendar and documents easily accessible.
The Working Sets, on the other hand, allows users to combine related stuff into a single project, regardless of their file type. This means that emails, spreadsheets, contacts and the likes can all be organized into one set for easy working access.
The OneClip feature may have hibernated for a while, but now it will be thoroughly integrated with Win10 and Office 365. This feature allows users to easily copy and paste items between their phone and PC. The OneDrive File Placeholders on the other hand, is one of Microsoft's removed features from last year's Windows update.
Luckily, right now, the placeholders will be returning, but it will now be called 'On-Demand Sync', PC World reported.
Windows 10 Redstone 2 Coming To Surface Devices
Right now, it's already uncertain if it's the Surface devices who's waiting for the new update, or if it's Redstone 2 who's adjusting for the Surfaces' release. Regardless of that, the only thing certain is that Microsoft has just released the Redstone 2 builds for Insiders' testing.
This means that it's still in the testing process, hence not ready for public roll out yet. If so, then the new Surface devices are just as unpolished as its rumored OS.
