In the morning of October 10, 2016; Billy Bush was not around during the airing of the 'Today' show after NBC News suspended the 44-year old because of a conversation he had with Donald Trump that was recorded in a videotape back in 2005. "We want to note one other thing, pending further review of the matter, NBC News has suspended Billy Bush, the host of Today's third hour for his role in that conversation with Donald Trump," Savannah Guthrie announced in the show.
A huge part of the second presidential debate revolved around the article that was published by the Washington Post. The article talked about a videotape that was recorded more than a decade ago in which Donald Trump and NBC News Today show host Billy Bush was in, discussing inappropriate things; in the videotape, Donald Trump was recorded speaking to Bush' cousin, Jeb, telling him that when a person is famous enough, he can freely grab a woman by her genitals.
"You know, I'm automatically attracted to beautiful ... I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything."
"Grab them by the p----. You can do anything," Trump said in the videotape
"Clearly this not how women should be spoken about. But were not choosing a Sunday school teacher here," Donald Trump's current campaign manager turned CNN surrogate Corey Lewandowski stated in defense of Trump. Scottie Hell Hughes, Trump's another CNN surrogate on the other hand, explained that during those times, Trump was only a part of entertainment industry, a world in which it is acceptable to speak these kind of language.
"If we're going to hold him accountable for the words he used eleven years ago, then we need to hold Hollywood celebrities accountable for their actions today and not allow them to be on the screen saying these same words," Hughes pointed out.
Meanwhile, Billy Bush apologized publicly for his involvement in the videotape 11 years ago and admitted that he was embarrassed and ashamed of his actions.
"It's no excuse, but this happened eleven years ago - I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I'm very sorry,"
