"Criminal Minds" season 12 has a lot of characters departing from the show. While Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) just left this season, there are new characters confirmed to join the cast, and some are returning.
Jane Lynch Returns To "Criminal Minds" Season 12
Jane Lynch is set to come back in the current season of "Criminal Minds" as Diana Reid, mother of Dr. Spencer Reid (Michael Gray Gubler). The feisty 56-year-old actress has been around the show since season 4. Despite her sudden disappearance in the previous season, the exit had not been deemed as her character's final departure. In the most recent news, Lynch will appear in two episodes only.
Paget Brewster Comes Back
Like Lynch, Paget Brewster is reprising her role in "Criminal Minds" as Emily Prentiss. While Gibson just took a bow as Aaron Hotchner, Prentiss leads the BAU team in investigating the disappearance of three women. However, it remains in question whether she will become the permanent leader of the team or a new character is set to be introduced.
Adam Rodriguez Joins Cast As Luke Alvez
Adam Rodriguez is the latest Hollywood celebrity confirmed to join the cast of "Criminal Minds" season 12. Rodriguez will portray the role of Luke Alvez who works for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Alvez will appear in at least five episodes chasing after absconded hooligans.
Rodriguez described Alvez as a simple military man who lives a minimalist lifestyle. He said: "I think he's about some really basic things. I think he's about integrity and being passionate about his job."
Penelope Has New Flame
As "Criminal Minds" season 12 has no more Hotchner, speculations arise that Alvez will become Penelope Garcia's (Kirsten Vangsness) new flame. Is she ready for the new guy in town?
"Criminal Minds" season 12 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
