SM Entertainment released an official update on EXO member, Lay, who suddenly lost consciousness before boarding the plane at the Incheon airport in Korea on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The EXO members were scheduled to go to Japan for their upcoming solo concert.
"Lay momentarily fainted due to a lack of sleep. According to the doctor, he will be fine after getting plenty of rest. Lay will be returning to the dorm in order to get some rest," SM Entertainment said, as quoted by Soompi.
Fans who were at the airport to send off the Korean boyband released eyewitness accounts of the incident on social media. According to reports, Lay was quickly sent to the hospital after fainting but the idol did not regain consciousness during the transfer.
With regard to EXO's solo concert originally scheduled on Oct. 12 and 13 at the Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena, SM Entertainment said Lay is determined to participate with the group's activity but will be making the decision later.
"He has a strong intent on joining the concert, so we plan to make the final decision after checking his condition," SM Entertainment said.
The EXO member has been busy lately for the release of his solo album. His first track "What U Need" which was released on his birthday was very successful and has received more than 2.5 million views as of this writing.
Lay had a similar incident last May, reported All Kpop, when the EXO member passed out while filming a Chinese variety show. The variety show staff said it was due to too much exhaustion and fatigue.
"Lay was actually very tired. During that time, he was involved in drama filming, performances, press conferences, and more," a representative of the variety show said.
The rest of the EXO members decided to depart for Japan after watching over Lay's condition.
