Fans of the "Mulan" Disney animation have been dismayed by rumors that Jennifer Lawrence will play the part of the Chinese heroin. As much as the Oscar Award winning actress is well-loved by film buffs, they are not really excited about the Jennifer Lawrence "Mulan" rumors that are going around. However, the rumors have persisted.
Fans Are Already Tired of Hollywood Whitewashing
Rumors started surfacing when Disney thought of casting the "Hunger Games" star to play the part of Mulan. This caused an outrage from movie fans as they consider this as another effort of Hollywood to whitewash the Asian story. A number of concerned fans began to circulate a petition to prevent Disney from casting white actors from playing Chinese characters.
"Mulan" Fans Were Disturbed By The Reports
The fans reacted in a frenzied manner when Unreel News, a parody site, released a fake announcement about the Jennifer Lawrence's "Mulan" live action movie. Its headline of the parody as posted on Twitter said, "Disney reportedly eying Jennifer Lawrence for live-action Mulan."
The website even mentioned that Zac Efron will be cast as Li Shang, the love interest of Mulan. Wiser Twitter users were able to see the humor about the fake news. They even resorted with their own jokes about the character and the movie. But a lot of fans seemingly took it as a fact and even showed their disapproval by posting their negative comments.
"Mulan" Fans Are In For A Surprise
Although the Jennifer Lawrence "Mulan" rumors are already slowly dying down, a new report has surfaced which may prove that the dilemma of the fans is not yet over. Angry Asian Man reported recently that an early draft of the live-action movie does not involve Lawrence. However, in the draft, Mulan will have a white male love interest, a 30-year old European trader.
