Apple has remained silent about any updates to one of its most successful and popular lines: The MacBook. The general public is expecting an event to take place before the end of the month, but no such thing has been officially announced. What has taken place, however, is a demo from Foxconn of its latest technologies for the 2016 MacBook Pro.
As BGR notes, it is no widely expected that the 2016 MacBook Pro will arrive with a second touchscreen display, which should replace the function keys that rest above the keyboard. Furthermore, this new display will have a morphing feature that is customized depending on the needs of specific applications. The Foxconn demo not only proves this but discloses something else that Apple has up its sleeve.
In a Reddit post, an anonymous user by the name FoxconnInsider disclosed that the demo took place in Tsinghua University, which he described as a "Chinese MIT." There, Foxconn reportedly displayed a "new MacBook keyboard module." This new keyboard, which had an OLED function key panel as described above, is reportedly slated for the 2016 MacBook Pro. The newer announcement, however, involved a "Magic Keyboard."
This new-generation keyboard reportedly wireless like other accessories in the market, but is likely to change the way MacBooks are currently used. Much like the OLED key panel, the Magic Keyboard will have an E Ink Display feature for every single key. Theoretically, the keys will change based on the needs of the user and the application currently in use.
FoxconnInsider went on to say that the Magic Keyboard is being worked on by Apple and a startup by the name of Sonder. Apparently, Apple is silently working on acquiring the startup and together, the companies are expected to release the keyboard by 2018. Because the 2016 MacBook Pro is expected for an unveil this month, it is possible that the E Ink Display keyboard will be ready by the time the notebook hits the market.
