When Apple was on the rise, the world watched as new and exciting products were released into the tech market. The items were innovative and pushed the boundaries as the public knew them. But since then, the technology of Apple has somehow plateaued as its competition has caught up, if not exceed the bar that it initially set.
As Forbes notes, the MacBook Pro has become stagnant over the years, with its design having remained the same and its updates very minimal. Each new generation seems to only differ in size, weight, and display. In comparison, it's various competitors have kept up with the times, which allows them to release the most powerful devices that technology can offer.
Taking a look at one of the biggest players in the laptop industry, Hewlett-Packard, it becomes almost blindingly obvious that Apple has been missing out. Over the years, HW has decreased bezel size, as well as improved display brightness and overall design. Furthermore, the company has not stopped working on battery life and heat issues. Comparatively, Apple's updates just do not compare.
It can be argued that Apple's original products do not need updates as drastic as the products that HP churns out. In terms of design, this is definitely arguable. But there is also no denying that the MacBook Pro can definitely afford an update in terms of the specs found under the hood.
For example, the 15 inch MacBook Pro carries an Intel Haswell processor, while the 13-inch variant has a Broadwell processor. Technically speaking, Intel released these chips in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Since then, the Skylake chip and the Kaby Lake chip have been released into the market.
This is why the public has been pushing for a new unit. It is not because there is something inherently wrong with the MacBook Pro. Rather, it is because here are available updates that Apple seems just adamant to not include. Instead, incremental - arguably unnecessary - updates are made.
And yet, the MacBook Pro units of yesteryear are still being sold at full price. Logically thinking, they are not good investments. And following this train of thought, Apple needs to release the 2016 MacBook Pro soon before it becomes the 2017 MacBook Pro.
Even the 2016 MacBook Pro's rumored updates are a little questionable. Making the rounds are a new OLED function keyboard above the standard keys and a Magic Keyboard, both of which will reportedly transform depending on the need of the user. That is, the keys will alter to specifically cater to the need of the application or system currently in use.
Depending on how the Cupertino-based company carries this technology out, the 2016 MacBook Pro could be another disappointment. On the other hand, it could be a great piece of technology. As nothing has been denied or confirmed, there really is no way to pinpoint the impact it will have to Apple and the tech industry.
At this point, however, all the best is expected for the upcoming product. Express UK reports that the 2016 MacBook Pro is expected to arrive with the necessary updates that will set it at par with the competition. More importantly, it is expected to be unveiled soon - before the month comes to a close.
