iPhone 7 Joins Note 7 Fiasco, Sets Car On Fire

Over a month after the much-celebrated release of Apple's seventh iteration of its flagship phone, the iPhone 7 is now in hot water over news of causing a fire to an owner's vehicle in Australia. The news has a striking resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's fate also just days after its release.

The First News Of iPhone 7 In Flames

An article from BGR said that a man in Australia reported an incident involving his week-old iPhone 7 busting into flames and causing damage to his vehicle. He said that he left the device under his pants inside the car then came back with totally blacked-out windows and even felt a wave of heat from smoke dispersing when he immediately opened the door.

Mat Jones, a surfing instructor, believes that the iPhone 7 is the main culprit as he describes the device melting inside when he unfolded his pants. He also argued that he never dropped or used any third-party chargers as suspected by other inquisitors.

The Possible Cause Of The iPhone 7 Fire

GSMArena reported that the vehicle was parked at a beach and under the extreme heat of the sun. Adding in the phone's placement under the pants and the car's warm temperature, it was possible that the device started to warm up thereby causing it to burst into flames and burn the man's pants while damaging his car along the way.

No News Of Recall From Apple Yet

It was also reported that Apple was made aware of the incident and was quick in contacting the victim and initiated an investigation regarding the mishap. This is still the first news of iPhone 7 behaving similarly to the fire-hazard rival Galaxy Note 7 and might have been just an isolated incident. Thus, it is still early to expect for the iPhone 7 to have the similar downward trend the ill-fated Samsung phablet had these past weeks. However, it has to be noted that the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco also started with one news of the device setting a car on fire.
