Good news for Delena shippers, "The Vampire Diaries" creator and showrunner Julie Plec says it is positive that Nina Dobrev will return as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. Plec also hints at the show's crossover with "The Originals" and a "powerful" ending for the "TVD" series finale.
"I feel very good about it! She and I have spoken and I know that she 100 percent wants to be there and I, of course, 100 percent want her to be there," Plec said in an interview with ET, referring to Dobrev's comeback. Plec added the problem now comes down to scheduling but she's feeling positive it will work out. "I have a feeling the cards will be in all our favor."
Although Elena was not seen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premiere on Oct. 21, old footages of hers way back from season 3 were shown. It is also clear that Elena will play a huge role to bring Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) sanity back. It was previously reported that Dobrev will not come back due to conflicts with Somerhalder, but latest developments say otherwise.
Commenting on the show's much anticipated ending, Plec revealed it will be a mixture of both a happy and sad conclusion. "Our show is supernatural, so sometimes closure means death and tragedy and sad endings -- which can be just as potent and powerful as happy endings -- so I have to imagine that we'll have a mixture of both," she explained.
Plec added that fans might be able to see more familiar faces on "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. She said a "handful" of characters from the past seasons might have their appearance and also hinted on "The Originals" crossover. "I don't know how or who, but I certainly think we can make it work on some level," she said.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 airs every Friday at 8 p.m. on The CW.
