The most awaited "The Vampire Diaries" season eight premiere finally aired last Friday and all the questions of the season's storyline finally started to get answers then. Most importantly, despite her absence, it looks like Elena has been and will always be Damon's source of strength and humanity.

The season eight premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" featured Damon bragging about having turned off his humanity switch and freely killing anyone that he comes across with. According to the storyline of the series, this was Damon's way of stopping the siren from getting into his mind and heart, protecting the one person he loves the most in the world: Elena. However, the upcoming second episode of the season may raise the question if he really did turn off his humanity switch.
Damon Still Thinks Of Elena When He Is Trying To Resist The Powers Of The Siren Upon Him
The upcoming second episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season eight will feature Alaric holding the key that will save Damon and Enzo. Damon doesn't look like he needs saving since he seems to be enjoying his time with his humanity off. However, it looks like there is something more to it than Damon is probably planning. In the promo clip released for the upcoming episode, the siren wonders how Damon is able to resist her. It then shows that he goes to what he perceives as his "Elena place" filled with his memories of Elena, making him able to resist the siren. Thus, this has led to the assumptions that he did not turn off his humanity switch and may have just said that as a tactic.
Bonnie Goes To Drastic Measures To Save The Love Of Her Life, Enzo
As for love does always seem to prevail in the series, Bonnie also does everything that she could to save the love of her life, Enzo. She believes that she he was trying to send her clues and by the looks of it, Bonnie doesn't seem to be giving up on him. There have been reports saying that she may even try drastic measures just to save him and Damon from the siren.
The Siren To Target The Returning Sarah Salvatore; What Is Her Connection To The Villain?
The upcoming episode will also allegedly feature the new villain of the series targeting someone so close to Stefan's heart, Sarah Salvatore. Her character's comeback to Mystic Falls is reportedly still a mystery and has nothing to do with the characters' storyline, as revealed by executive producer Julie Plec. However, there could still be an answer there somewhere that she brings to the group.
The upcoming second episode of "The Vampire Diaries" to be entitled "Today Will be Different" is going to be released next Friday, October 28.
