Pokemon Go has numerous types of ways on how to earn an extra XP to level up your particular character. One of which is by performing a curveball while capturing a certain Pokemon in the wild. Curveballs can give you an additional 10 XP for every successful catch. However, this trick can cost you several PokeBalls especially when you are still a newbie. Thankfully, a dedicated player was able to come up with a guide to help those trainers who are having difficulties while performing a curveball.
According to Otakukart, curveballs grant players a 1.7 multiplier to the capture rate aside from the measly 10 XP bonus. By this notion, capturing a Pokemon in the wild using curveballs will be a lot easier compared to the normal catch. Throwing a curveball is not actually that hard. It just needs a little bit of estimation and the right spin. Since Pokemon Go does not apply wind when capturing, it will not affect your PokeBall's speed while spinning.
Based on the guide posted on the site, if you spin the PokeBall clockwise, it has to hit the Pokemon on the right side which is half of the screen. If you spin the PokeBall clockwise, it has to hit the Pokemon on the left side which is also half of the screen. To make a further clarification, hitting the Pokemon with the ball is all that matters upon performing a curveball. You can begin throwing anywhere you want, either left or right corner. In addition, it is not needed for the ball to cross the middle line of the screen to receive the curveball bonus.
As found on the guide posted on Reddit, a successful curveball is determined by the direction of the PokeBall spin and not on the starting point nor trajectory which most players believe until now. If you get the logic, the effectiveness of your curveball throwing technique will surely increase.
