Pokémon Go unveiled its first ever in-game event. This coming Halloween, Pokémon Go players will have the opportunity to get twice as much candy than normal.
Niantic's Halloween offering for Pokémon Go players will last for one week. The event will start on Wednesday, October 26 and end on Tuesday, November 1. That gives players seven days to get as many candy treats as possible.
According to Tech Crunch, players can earn up to six candies per catch and two candies when for every transfer. That's an impressive eight candies just for one catch. Another four candies can be earned for a successful Buddy level-up.
This event gives players the opportunity to grab a total of 16 candies in a 20-kilometer walk. Before, the same distance covered will only yield 4 candies.
An added treat for the Trick and Treaters is the spookier look of some of the Pokémon characters particularly Drowzee, Gengar, Gastly, Golbat, Haunter, Hypno, and Zubat.
A Forbes article sees this move by Niantic as a great tactic to pull players back to the game that caught the fancy of many when it was first introduced in July. Since the game took the world by storm, fans and players have gradually dwindled. The Forbes article mentioned that while the in-game event may pull many players back to its fold during the Halloween event, they might not be too happy returning to the old ways afterwards.
Just this month, the location-based reality game added some new features to keep the fans' interest. The additional features included a catch bonus, an updated Gym Training, and the Egg and Incubator Screens.
The creators of Pokémon Go are also banking on the new Pokémon Sun and Moon to keep players excited. The new game is scheduled for release on Nov. 18 this year.
The Pokémon Go Halloween event will be available to players worldwide.
