Earlier this month, Pan European Gaming Information (PEGI), released a PEGI 16 rating for the original Red Faction. While there is still no official announcement, this rating hints the possibility of a PS4 version of the original game.
It's almost 15 years after Red Faction was released for the PlayStation 2. The original game was well received by gamers and analysts alike with an 88.29 percent rating from Metacritic. It is considered one of the classics for the PS2.
The original developer Volition said that the Red Faction series was terminated due to its poor sales, with the latest instalment Red Faction: Armageddon failing to reach expected sales. The Red Faction series was sold to Nordic Games (now THQ Nordic), after publishing company THQ went bankrupt. Since then, the franchise did not have any development. Well, until recently.
Red Faction Receives Europe Rating For PS4
According to PEGI, the PS4 rating issued was due to the realistic violence that may not be appropriate for younger gamers. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), PEGI's American equivalent, has yet to release their own rating.
According from an article on GameRant, it is a good time to re-release the original version of the Red Faction, as it was recently cleared from Germany's list of media considered harmful for the young. The decision came out after a series of thorough discussion and explanation made by THQ Nordic.
No Confirmation Yet For Game Release
There is still no information if the PS4 version of the game will be a remake or a port, and THQ Nordic has yet to confirm when the game will be coming. Adding a new chapter in the series may rekindle the interest of players, but remaking the original game that started it all may bring back the nostalgia, which the game sequel lacked.
One thing is for sure though, a rating from out of the blue means that it will happen soon. And we will yet to see if investing in a previous success will be a worthy move from THQ Nordic.
