As announced, Overwatch Competitive Play Season 2 is set to end next month. Players will not wait for long though, as the season 3 will follow afterwards. In fact, it was confirmed that the third season of Competitive Play will start kicking off this early December.
According to the reports from Attack of the Fanboy, the announcement was posted via blog post which Scott Mercer, Overwatch's principal designer, recently published. Based on the post, he addressed the encountered problems regarding the skill rating in season 2 and how they will fixed it in season 3.
At the beginning of the post, Mercer said that providing the fairest matches is their main goal. Fair matches of skills between the teams will grant players the greatest chance to enjoy playing Overwatch. He also added that they will make every competitive season to have a feel of a fresh start. The director mentions that they will not be resetting the Skill Rating at the beginning of the season. That means players will not be required to battle other players of a different skillset. Mercer announced that if the new season starts, players will use their previous season's Skill Rating as a starting point.
He also discussed about the current season's issue regarding the unequal distribution of players into their skill tiers. As it was discovered, there are lots of players dwelling on the higher tier while only a few on the lower tier. This results to a quicker drop to the player's skill rating, and as well as the gap between tiers being larger than they should have now. Currently, they are now running a series of tests in order to fix these issues heading to the next season. One possible way that is currently under testing is to reconfigure everyone's SR to be slightly lower at the start.
Overwatch is now available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
