GTA V Rumor: Rockstar Games Expanding GTA Online; Postpones GTA VI?

GTA Online will reportedly continue to expand even beyond 2020. If this is true, will Rockstar Games shelved GTA VI indefinitely?

GTA Online Bold Predictions

GTA forum user Softsecrets made some bold claims on what features to expect from GTA Online in the coming years. Some of the his or her prediction turned out to be true such as the Biker DLC that Rockstar announced more than a month later. Critics however, said that the predictions are more like guess works since no evidence such as pictures, videos or release dates were provided.

The predictions include a "Law & Order DLC in which GTA Online players can be assumed the role of cops catching the bad guys. Map expansions will reportedly include North Yankton, Liberty City, San Fierro and Last Ventures.

Sofsecrets also predicted that Rockstar Games will no longer issue single player DLC but instead will only issue online DLC and expansion maps. This move indicates that Rockstar recognizes the sustainability of GTA Online including the game's microtransactions. Some may say that GTA Online is getting closer to becoming a full massive multiplayer online (MMO) game.

GTA Online Expansion To Affect GTA VI?

Some of the predicted features may or may not come true. But the GTA Online expansion may affect the development of GTA VI since some of the speculated DLC and expansion maps will take years to finish. One map expansion, Vice City will reportedly be released only after GTA VI is release which in turn may come out on 2020 or more likely beyond that.

The sheer amount of added contents and map expansion will take years and millions of dollars in development costs. It is possible that Rockstar will focus on the recouping the costs it incurred on GTA Online before embarking on another major project such as GTA VI. However, these are all merely speculations and may be the sixth GTA installment will be released as scheduled.
