EA Bans Myanmar From Accessing Origin, No Warnings Issued

Gamers from Myanmar are reported to have issues getting into their games through Origin. As reported, PC players are unable to login to their Origin accounts. It appears that EA has blocked players from Myanmar.

EA bans Myanmar

The ban was first reported on Reddit and several players from Myanmar complained about getting a message that says, "Access Denied" when trying to log into Origin. Further reports even said that Origin is no longer available in Myanmar. Sad fact is, these gamers from Myanmar weren't even offered refunds to the games they have bought, especially to the recently released Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. It looked like that EA just simply ended its Origin services in Myanmar without giving any warning.

US Law the reason for blocking Origin Access?

One PC player from Myanmar who is having issues getting in to his Origin account reported that a customer service rep blamed the US sanction against Myanmar for the ban. It is said that EA is no longer offering Origin to the Southeast Asian country due to the US law against Myanmar. However, the said sanctions were already lifted Oct. 7, however, players from Myanmar are still unable to access Origin.

Additionally, Steam and GOG are said to be working well in Myanmar. This unfair blocking makes players realize that digital purchases come with serious risks.

Game Libraries not accessible... Ouch!

In a post by Redditor trivial_sublime, he is unable to access his Origin game library earlier this week. His game library consisting of 20 games worth around $1,200 are made inaccessible without warning. He then found out through Google search that EA just complied with the US law which resulted to dropping support for Myanmar players.

A post then from an EA volunteer answered his query that states, "I'm sorry but Origin is no longer available in Myanmar. Yes, with the Origin 10 update, US laws (which is where EA is based) forced them to block certain countries. Unfortunately you live in one of those countries. I'm sorry but there is nothing we ca do here to allow you access again."

UPDATE: EA's Response

An EA representative recently spoke to Kotaku and said, "We are working to restore access to Origin for our players in Myanmar. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we'll share updates on timing as soon as possible."
