Legendary director Quentin Tarantino has made a startling announcement recently. According to the award-winning filmmaker, he will finally call it quits after making two more films.
In a conference at Adobe Max, Tarantino confirmed that the next two films he will make will be his last. And he did it in typical Quentin Tarantino fashion:
"Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that sh*t." He said on Thursday much to the delight of the crowd.
His retirement should not have come as a surprise to those who have been following his career. The film legend has been teasing a possible hint at calling it a day after making 10 movies. The biggest reason is that he does not want to tarnish his legacy as a director.
"Directors don't get better as they get older. Usually, the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f*cks up three good ones," Tarantino said.
It is rumored that the "Kill Bill" director is planning to move on to theater and making novels after his career as a filmmaker is said and done.
Tarantino has plenty of grand ideas for his finale in cinema. He is said to be working on a ninth film which will be set in the outback. He refers to the film as something which will have a Bonny and Clyde vibe.
It is hard to believe that a director with so many hits and few misses will end his career quite abruptly. But considering what Quentin said about directors, maybe this was this way of him saying that he is starting to feel the dreaded creative burnout most artists start to have as the get older.
If this is true, expect the next Quentin Tarantino movies to be the best movies he will ever make. It is hard to see it being other than a guaranteed hit.
