Overwatch Update: Blizzard Admits Not Being 'Very Good' At Sombra ARGs

At long last, the new Overwatch hero Sombra has been finally unveiled at BlizzCon. Although it didn't really come as a surprise, fans were relieved knowing that she's indeed coming. Prior to this, however, there were lots of dramas involving the character's ARGs. From one clue to another, players were growing skeptical, thinking that Blizzard might just be playing a trick or two. The studio, nonetheless, reportedly admitted that when it comes to such stuff, they're not just good at playing it.

Before the aforementioned Overwatch hero came to existence, various clues and/or hints were spread. There was even a point where fans would reach a certain countdown, only to be introduced to another. Obviously, this has stained Blizzard's reputation, as many thought that the video game company has no plans of releasing her.

Fortunately, the highly anticipated Overwatch hero was unleashed at BlizzCon. An animated short was released, showcasing the offense-heavy hacker. And somehow, this has helped weather the storm. After all, the community will be getting what they've always wanted -- Sombra.

According to Kotaku, Geoff Goodman -- the Overwatch hero's lead designer -- admitted that they weren't really that good at ARGs. That despite "taking the feedback" straight from the community, they've never ever done such thing before. So, in a sense, it was their first time doing it.

But overall, as what Goodman pointed out, the whole Overwatch ARG of Sombra of was a success. That Blizzard, at the end of the day, was able to showcase the hero in a way they "wouldn't have otherwise been able to." Well, fans knowing her identity or something beforehand is already proof to that.

As previously reported here at iTech Post, the new Overwatch hero is equipped with hacking skills. She's capable of teleporting from one place to another, while her ultimate enables her to disable opponents. As for the idea of putting another ARG trick in the future, Goodman said that they don't plan to do such for the time being. But nonetheless, they're keeping the doors open.
