After more than three years of being placed on hiatus by Cartoon Network, "Young Justice" season 3 finally gets the green light and is said to be already in its pre-production stage. However, the announcement made on Monday, Nov. 7 did not reveal any further details including the season 3 premiere date and the TV network that will pick up the show.
Warner Bros. Animation made a lot of "Young Justice" fans delighted when it announced the return of their favorite cartoon series. On its official Twitter account, DC Comics confirmed the news, writing: "You called. We answered. Young Justice will return for Season 3! #YoungJusticeRenewed."
According to the release, the show has already begun production and is looking at more twists and dangerous stunts for the group of teenage counterpart of Justice League called The Team. Creators of the original run, Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti, are reportedly returning for the all-new third season of the show.
"Young Justice" managed to attract a huge fanbase, with 25 million viewers said to have watched each of its first two seasons. The first run of the show also won an Emmy award for individual achievement in animation in 2011. The series showcased a solid cast of voice actors which included Jesse McCartney (Robin), Lacey Chabert (Zatanna), and Danica McKellar (Miss Martian).
Although "Young Justice" enjoyed a massive success, Cartoon Network axed the show in 2013 to give way to its other animated shows. However, Netflix has provided the "Young Justice" fandom with the chance to relive the episodes as it allowed the opportunity for binge-watching on its streaming service.
The gesture has then sparked rumors that Netflix will pick up the show and make "Young Justice" season 3 a reality. Although the rumor was denied by "Young Justice" producer Greg Weisman in August, fans are still guessing that it will be the said streaming platform that will take the upcoming third installment.
"Young Justice" Season 3 Plotline Speculations
"Young Justice" season 2 left off with a major cliffhanger where one of the original characters of the series, Kid Flash, sacrificed his life to save more lives. Since there was no closure about his suppossed death, fans are now expecting season 3 to reveal the truth behind it.
The series initially featured the protégés, Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Speedy. It then became a bigger roster of teenage superheroes and sidekicks. With season 2 seemingly eliminating Kid Flash, it is surmised that the group of teen superheroes will have a more difficult time in doing their task.
More concrete information about the plot and air date of "Young Justice" season 3 is expected to be unveiled as the show's production progresses.
