Is The 'PlayStation 4 Pro' Worth The Upgrade?

There have been some recent talks, rumors, speculations, and predictions regarding the up and coming PlayStation 4 Pro for months now. As of right now, some of the specs and everything incorporated onto the PS4 Pro seems to be getting together, and we can now finally confirm that the PS4 Pro is a console worth waiting for. But most questions right now are focused on, 'is the PlayStation 4 Pro worth the upgrade?'

The PS4 Pro is just an iteration of the original PS4

First of all, we should understand that the PS4 Pro is an iterative update. It's not an innovatively new console system in the truest of sense. It is just an upgrade over the previous PS4 versions. It's this type of update that mostly upsets a lot of PlayStation fans, as they feel like a mediocre refresh is not worth dropping anywhere from $250-$400 on an up and coming console

People also needs to oblige with what the company demands

A lot of the additions that Sony incorporated to the PS4 Pro isn't even beneficial when the original PS4 launched back in 2013. What was available back then would have been extremely high-end, making it extremely unaffordable to the general public. But it's all about checks and balances. Sometimes people have to do the best they can at the price point that Sony is targeting.

4K TVs will also play a huge factor

There's also that issue for 4k television. 4K TVs were already available back in 2013, but only a few people actually had 4K TV sets at home. Aside from the fact that they were completely new, 4K TVs were also nothing short of expensive, as well as gimmicky, according to some. For a refresh that mostly highlights 4K and HDR, the quality of the television that it's plugged to also makes a very significant difference.

4K and HDR will change the course of how we play our games

If that might seem too exaggerated to you, you have to try it for yourself. By doing so you will be enlightened with the fact that 4K does make a whole lot of difference in your games. With the presence of 4K, developers are now powered to enable truly amazing lighting effects without any hindering on the framerate whatsoever. All of this, thanks to HRD and 4K being incorporated on the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Is the Pro it worth the upgrade?

Just like any aspect of life, it will all depend on how much you want an upgrade. If you have a 4K television at home, then you need to experience the latest and greatest graphical experience that you need to have. If you manage to find yourself buying a game or two a year and playing irregularly, you can probably wait a couple more months until more game titles will make use of the PlayStation 4 Pro platform.

No 4K TV? No problem

If you currently do not own a 4K television, don't worry. There are still some noticeable improvements in both framerate and visuals that can be visible on non-4k display TVs. Overall, if asked whether upgrading to the Pro is worth it or not, I'd say that I'd wait towards when I can finally buy one until I have a 4k TV to get the full benefit of 4K HDR.
