The PlayStation 4 Pro is coming out just in time for the holidays. But there are concerns among prospective customers on whether the PS4 Pro can adequately handle 4K videos and games considering that it does not have a built-in 4K Blu-ray drive.
PlayStation 4 Pro Running 4K Games And 4K Streaming
Testers played native resolution games such as the Skyrim Special Edition on the PS4 Pro and 4K resolution looks good. However, the PS4 Pro's ability to present an impressive 4K view will also depend on the developer's technique in upscaling their game's graphics to 4K quality, according to Eurogamer. The Rise of the Tomb Raider 4K version was beautiful on the PS4 Pro although it's not an original 4K game.
Uncharted from Naughty Dog received an upscaled patch in which the original 900 pixel was boosted to 1080p. It looks good on the PS4 Pro although not as sharp as the Rise of the Tomb Raider. The absence of a 4K Blu-ray drive will not prevent PS4 Pro owners from watching 4K movies and TV shows via online streaming services.
PlayStation 4 Pro Is It Worth The Price?
The PS4 Pro is coming out on Nov. 10 at a base price of around $400. For those who don't own a PS4, the Pro version seems a reasonable investment since it has double the graphics performance and internal storage space, 4K streaming and 4K gaming support compared to the current PS4 model.
But for those who already own a PS4, sticking to the old console is probably better unless you want the PS4 Pro really bad. There are no incentives to dump the PS4 for the newer Pro model. Sony is also well aware that there are almost 50 million PS4 owners around the world. There is no way that the Japanese console maker is going to abandon them anytime soon. Game developers are also expected to churn out PS4 game titles for the foreseeable future.
