Skyrim Runs Amazingly At 4K But There's Some Disappointment

Skyrim is one of the first games which got a PS4 Pro support and fans of the game are more than just happy to learn about that. The game indeed runs natively on 4K resolution, but there's some kind of disappointments for some.

Skyrim Special Edition runs at native 4K which means it has a 3840X2160 framebuffer without using checkerboard rendering or upscaling from a lower resolution. Bethesda also used the same temporal AA solution it used in PS4 and combined it with an increased pixel count. This combination results in a very refined image without having to use a lot of anti-aliasing at ultra-high resolutions caused by tight pixel density. This method is usually used to hide jagged edges to a much better degree compared to a 1080p screen. Players will notice this as the stair steps look smaller and less obvious.

However, aside from the increased pixel count, there's little improvement in the visual department. The shadow quality and the general effects have little difference compared to the visuals of the game running on PS4. Even the core artwork has no improvement or enhancement. The only difference, perhaps, is the grass and the plants become visible at longer range. This feature might not be really noticeable except to those who have played Skyrim on PS4. Ut that only that because the other geometric shapes and other elements of the game have no difference than the PS4 visuals.

The boost in the quality of Skyrim's resolution makes the PS4 game almost similar in quality to the PC version which runs using a powerful graphics card. Compared to the base PS4 version, however, Skyrim at 4K doesn't have that much solid performance . That' s the trade off for getting a smoother raw image quality.

Skyrim Special Edition running at 4K is good if the player uses a 4K screen. However, if you are hoping to get a full upgrade in 1080p mode with a TV on full HD screen, then this one will be a disappointment.
