Diablo 4 fans were disappointed that Blizzard made no mention of an upcoming Diablo installment. However, a few clues and hints have been uncovered that may reveal its possible release date and gameplay.
The Diablo 4 Dice A Mere Coincidence?
The Diablo 4 rumors started to sparked when one of the Diablo dice intended for the 2016 Blizzcon event contained a printing error in which a side of the dice read 1/1/4. However, the error was instead taken as a hint that Blizzard will announce a Diablo 4 reveal on Blizzcon that started on Nov. 4 but it never happened. On the other hand, it might be a start of a long ARG, remember Sombra?
Diablo 4 Coming Out in Various Platforms
Diablo 4 will likely come out in various platforms such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC as well as the PS4 Pro and Xbox Project Scorpio. It's unlikely that Diablo 4 will be released on the Xbox 360 or PS3.
Diablo Job Postings
Blizzard posted months back job openings for a Diablo project including the position of game director. This led to speculation that a Diablo 4 project or at least a Diablo 3 expansion is under way. Fans were hoping that Blizzard will make an announcement about this on the 2016 Blizzcon event. Instead, the developer announced the addition of a playable Necromancer Class with male and female options.
The number of people that Blizzard hired for unannounced Diablo project seems to many to worked on the new Necromancer Class unless the new hires are merely filling in the positions vacated by former Diablo staff. But this could not be verified yet as of the moment.
This is by far, the most tangible hint that Blizzard is developing something for Diablo. A remaster or remake of old Diablo installments is certainly out. That leaves the possibility of either a Diablo 3 expansion or a new Diablo 4.
