Nintendo Switch Latest Update: Possible Price Accidentally Leaked By Retailer

The question everybody who have seen the Nintendo Switch ads are asking has finally been answered - possibly.

Rumors of the price of the new portable gaming console from Nintendo have been floating around recently. According to the buzz, the Switch will be priced somewhere from $250 to $300 per unit. But Forbes reports that a leak that originated from a Toys "R" Us store in Canada indicated that the Switch can be had for possibly only $245.

The listing from the Canadian branch of the popular toy retailer has been taken down already but many have already seen it before it was deleted. In the post, the Switch was priced at 329.99 CAD - that's approximately $245.

Price Comparison

With the supposed leak surfacing, The Verge decided to compare prices of other gaming consoles to get an idea how much the Switch should be worth.

Forget for a while that the Black Friday Sale is days away. The PlayStation 4 and XBox One are normally priced around $299.99. The Verge believes Nintendo should aim for that price range if it wants the Switch to compete with these gaming favorites.

Nintendo can even go lower than $300 as it has done with its previous products. The company sold the first Wii at only $249 as compared to its contemporaries. The PS3 and XBox 360 were priced at $499 and $299, respectively, at the time.

As it stands, a $249 price will give the Switch a huge advantage over the other consoles. Pricing it at $299 will make buyers think twice or thrice on which console to purchase. However, the Switch has gained a lot of fans just from watching the ads released by the company in late October.

The official announcement from the gaming company regarding the actual price and other details will be on Jan. 12, 2017.
