Dishonored 2 allows players to pick between two playable characters: Emily Kaldwin and her father Corvo Attano. Choosing one will lock you off the other, so there is no turning back. They are both more than capable in killing enemies, but each possesses a unique set of abilities. One of them may cater more to your style and this guide will help you find out which one to play as.
Dishonored 2 Corvo Attano: Unique Abilities And Upgrades
Possession: Corvo's ability allows him to slip into rats and enemies, which will enable him to move around the area without being spotted. In Dishonored 2, it comes with cool upgrades that improve the capabilities of this ability.
The Chain Hosts upgrade allows Corvo to jump between hosts, while Corpse Possession allows him to slip into a fresh cadaver, but he will not be able to move. Lasting Possession is exactly that - the possession lasts and costs while Human Possession enables him to occupy a human's body, perfect for ghosting.
Blink: It is Dishonored 2 Corvo's "teleportation" ability. It allows him to move to a hard-to-reach spot at a greater speed, resulting in some pretty sweet assassinations. It does not cost anything, so players can use this at will.
This ability has three upgrades, the first of which is Greater Blink that extends the range. The next one is called Redirective Blink that stops the time momentarily while the last upgrade is Blink Assault, which allows players to attack enemies just as the ability is ending.
Devouring Swarm: Corvo summons a swarm of rats that can devour enemies or distract opponents. They also come in handy if you want to use Possession on a rat. If you find yourself short on rodents, worry not as this ability comes with three upgrades.
The Greater Swarm upgrade increases the rats at your disposal. The next upgrade, Rat Piper, then makes rats follow you around after being summoned. Lastly, Twin Swarms summons two packs of rats that can have different targets.
Bend Time: A way to slow down time in Dishonored 2, this is especially useful when incorporated into attack strategies. This is also a great way to ghost if you want to remain undetected and plan to have low chaos.
The first upgrade is Stop Time, which takes the ability a notch higher by completely stopping time for a moment. Next is Relativity, which gives you the impression of everything slowing down around you, making you move faster relatively. Lasting Time Bend is a no-nonsense upgrade that increases the Bend Time.
Windblast: This Dishonored 2 ability releases a gust of wind that can push enemies off or destroy doors and other objects. It can also be used as a distraction or as a defensive mechanism as it can deflect incoming objects.
It has only two upgrades: Greater Windblast and Shockwave. The first one deals more damage to enemies due to a bigger gust and the latter summons wind that surrounds you. The latter is a great ability when you are surrounded by enemies.
Dishonored 2 Emily Kaldwin: Unique Abilities And Upgrades
Doppelanger: This makes a body double of Dishonored 2's Emily that can be used to distract enemies or to set off some traps and security systems. It can also be linked to another ability called Domino, discussed below.
The upgrade called Baffling Shade confuses the enemies when the clone dies. Transposition switches you with your twin, which can be extremely advantageous when used right. Deadly Shade puts your body double right beside you to fight with you and Twin Shades conjures two clones that move independently of each other.
Far Reach: Emily's own Blink ability, it helps her get to hard-to-reach places. However, she has to hold onto something to travel fast to that spot. It can also be used to trigger objects at a distance.
The Pull Objects upgrade in Dishonored 2 can grab onto objects in mid-air and pull them in. This can be used on anything, even a dead body. Decelerate slows down time while using Far Reach and Pull Enemies does exactly that. The latter can be used to kill enemies or knock them out as they fly towards you.
Shadow Walk: This is also somewhat similar to Possessing in that it allows you to move inconspicuously. It turns Emily into a wisp of black stuff that can help in getting into tight places or to assassinate enemies.
As a nod to Dishonored 2 Corvo's rats ability, the Shadow Walk can be upgraded with Rat Shadow, which makes Emily take on the form of a rat's shadow. The Improved Shadow Attack enables her to kill or knock out two enemies, while Shadow Run can make her run faster while using the ability. Greater Shadow Attack allows her to handle up to three enemies.
Domino: The ability links two enemies so that whatever you do to one of them happens to the other who is linked. Throw one off a bridge and the other follows. Kill one and the other dies. Knock one out and the other passes out. If linked to Doppelganger, your clone can also link enemies.
While the original ability can only handle two. The upgrades allow Emily to link more enemies. The Link Three upgrade allows her to link up to three while Link Four enables linking up to four enemies.
Mesmerize: Emily casts a vision to serve as a distraction for two enemies nearby. It affects humans and hounds and while under the spell, you can attack them. They might also move away, leaving the spot open for you to pass through.
The Mesmerize Three upgrade increases the count of enemies you can put under the spell to three. Another upgrade, Mesmerize Four, distracts up to four enemies. Lasting Mesmerize, as the name suggests, makes the spell time last longer.
While the abilities for Corvo and Emily are already set, there are thousands of ways you can utilize them to reach your end goal. There are also other abilities that the father and daughter duo share, so you are not limited to the ones mentioned above.
Either of the two will make you fully enjoy the game, but only one might be suited to your playstyle, so taking your time to decide should prove to be an advantage. Dishonored 2 is available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
