Sailor Moon has been the essence of female power fighting against evil. Now, in Japan, they have integrated the Sailor soldier figure with their public awareness campaign against sexually transmitted diseases. They now offer Sailor Moon condoms as their front liners against sexually transmitted diseases.
Sailor Moon condoms are now given free to females to keep them protected always, Anime Network News reported. Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has the idea of Sailor Soldier behind them to protect their citizens from syphilis and other rapidly spreading diseases especially among young females during sex.
The Ministry of Health has asked the aid of the Pretty Guardian herself and distributed total of 5,000 posters and 156,000 leaflets around the country for their campaign against STD. This will be further distributed among 142 local governments and groups such as Japan Medical Association, Japanese Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Japan Foundation for AIDS Prevention and Japanese Foundation for Sexual Health Medicine at their annual January 15's Coming-of-Age ceremonies and other similar venues.
The tagline for the poster reads, "If you don't get tested, I will punish you!!" Sailor Moon creator, Naoko Takeuchi, has been courteous enough to assist in this event especially that the anime and manga's target audience are females in their 20's today. Asides from the posters and leaflets, the Japanese government will also distribute a total of 60,000 Sailor Moon condoms in heart-shaped packaging with the famous Sailor Moon images in front of the package.
The said campaign intentions are to increase awareness and prevention from sexually transmitted diseases, early detection, prevention and treatment of the disease. Sexually Transmitted Diseases are no joke. The annual number of reported syphilis cases in Japan increased about 4.3 times from 621 in the year 2000 to 2,697 in the year 2015.
This is where the Sailor Soldier steps in. The Government is hoping that the advertisement campaign and new product packaging image would catch the attention of more females around Japan. In favor of the health issue, I wanted to have this campaign recognize around the globe. A new generation has no idea or even courage to seek help about this matter. Thus, a trend might give them a factor of consideration.
Now, Japan can get to have Sailor Moon condoms in their pockets and battle those "dark forces" in the name of the moon.
