‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Spoilers, News And Updates: Will This Be The Show’s Last Season? Spin-Off Movie To Star Will Ferrell As Sherlock?

At last, the creators of "Sherlock" season 4 have confirmed that the show is in production and they already have a release date. But the sad news is: this season may be its last. However, there are no details included in their announcement.

Some Fans Are Still Hopeful

There were reports saying that after the showing of the entire "Sherlock" season 4, the show's production will have a long break. The premiere of the upcoming season is slated on Jan. 1, 2017. A cast member of the show said that season 4 will explain the reasons for this long break.

Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the role of Sherlock Holmes explained that the story will be laid down in season 4 which will explain why "Sherlock" season 4 will take a break after its final episode is shown. He added that the show will depict many events and twists that will satisfy its die-hard fans.

The Show's Long Breaks Is Not Unusual

It can't be denied that "Sherlock" season 4 is crazy addicting. Some believe that it is one of the best TV series today. But it also can't be denied that the show is punctuated by long breaks in between seasons. The show's time difference between seasons is approximately two years. That long wait really makes the avid fans go nuts.

Nevertheless, the show was able to build a fan base that enabled it to run for four seasons. But the question now is: will the fourth season be its last? The producers' assurance that this will just be another long break seemingly does not assuage the worries of the show's avid fans.

New Cast Members Are Coming And New Movie Is On The Works

There's good news though for "Sherlock" season 4. Apparently, new cast members will appear on the show. One is Tom Hiddleston of "Thor" fame who will play Sherlock's brother Sherrinford. There's also a movie titled "Holmes and Watson" which is reportedly in the works. It will star Will Ferrell as Holmes and John Reilly as Watson.
