British manufacturer for sports and racing cars, Lotus, has just announced their newest sports car on Wednesday. The new Lotus Exige Sport 380 promises more power than its predecessor the Exige Sport 350 and will come with a lighter body. The new sports car is still tuned for normal road use even with its promised power.
The Last New Car Of 2016
"We have saved something special for our last new car of 2016, we have built upon the foundations of the Exige Sport 350 and developed a perfectly proportioned and attainable supercar for real roads", stated the CEO of Lotus, Jean-Marc Gales, in a press release. He mentions that the new Exige 380 no longer needs to be the best in the class as it is now in a class of its own. The car will also have all functional aero kits that will give it a good deal of grip despite its lightweight body.
The Lotus Exige Sport 380 Packs A Lot Of Power While Staying Light
According to Top Gear, the new Lotus Exige Sport 380 weighs only 2,447 pounds, which is around 55 pounds lighter than the previous Exige. This was achieved by adding carbon fiber to the body, diffuser and on the wing. New splitters, front panels, and slimmer seats also reduced the weight to approximately 6 pounds. The new ultra-light wheels and brakes save another 22 pounds. The functional aero kit creates more than 300 pounds of down force during top speed to enable plenty of grips.
The Lotus Exige Sport 380 puts out 378horse power from its 3.5liter supercharged V6 engine. Both manual and automatic transmission are available options. The car can reach a top speed of 178 miles per hour and can go from zero to 60 in just 3.5 seconds. Unfortunately, the Exige Sport 380 will not reach the American market, it will, however, be available in Europe for 67,900 British pounds.
