Samsung Galaxy S4 Teaser Video Released (Video)

With mobile giant Samsung on the way to (finally) unveiling its much vaunted Galaxy S4 at an event in New York on Thursday, March 14, rumors are swirling across the Web. Everyone who is wondering exactly what the new Galaxy S4 will look like and how it will stack up against its successful predecessor, the Galaxy S3, can rest a little easier with Samsung's newly released teaser video.

"I know this is going to be one of the most amazing products since ... " the old chauffeur hesitates in the video, trying to find the right analogy ," ... TVs went color!"

That's right: Samsung's teaser trailer for the Galaxy S4 compares the release of the new smartphone to the proliferation of color TVs.

The white-haired chauffeur (we don't yet see whom he's driving in the swanky luxury automobile, tooling up a busy Manhattan-esque street) explains that the "secret meeting" they're heading toward will be "very exciting."

This is when the doors to an even swankier penthouse office are thrown open and — BOOM — we see the person being driven: the diminutive "Jeremy" (perhaps nine years old; Trump business suit and all).

Jeremy (aka "Mr. Maxwell") sits there, nodding his head and agreeing that he should be "honored," as the Samsung sycophant across the table (on which rests a plate of cookies and ice cold milk) suggests.

Jeremy Maxwell is, as we're told through subtitles, the "secret messenger" of Samsung Unpacked 2013, at which the Galaxy S4 will be unveiled. He's about to "take the most important role" in the Samsung Unpacked 2013 event, in fact.

"So, you ready for the biggest job in your life?" asks the sycophant, with Mr. Maxwell proclaiming, "I'm always ready!"

Another employee steps in with a white Samsung Unpacked 2013 box in hand, and Mr. Maxwell, the excitable nine-year-old he is, runs over, "Wow! Is that it?!"

Maxwell notes that it "looks really cool" (yes, just the white box) and asks if he can have one little peek inside. He's allowed, granted that he won't "tell anybody about it."

"Got it," says Maxwell. "Totally top secret."

The box is opened, and — like the magic briefcase in Pulp Fiction — bathes Maxwell with a bright gold light. The video cuts to black with a title card reading, "Be ready 4 the next Galaxy," and we're done ...

... until the tag at the end, which shows what the next installment of the Galaxy S4 teaser trailer will present, as Maxwell's adorable little girl neighbor (glasses and all) wants to know what's in the box.

She's literally screaming at him from across the lawn to where he's hiding in his room with the box on his desk, "I know you got something in there, Jeremy Maxwell!"

Maxwell tells her to go away, closing his curtains, and with action film music at highest crescendo, we cut finally to black again: "to be continued ... "

Turns out the video — which does not show the Galaxy S4 at all — is merely a prelude to an entire adventure that will have our intrepid "secret messenger" engage in all manner of shenanigans before the phone is released next week.

Invitations for the March 14 Unpacked event were sent out in February.

CNET reminds us that the specs on the Galaxy S4 are rumored to be:

  • Eight-core Exynos processor
  • A separate eight-core graphics processing unit
  • A 4.99-inch Super Amoled display, 2GB of RAM
  • A 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capability
  • A 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • The latest version of Android, 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

When will Jeremy Maxwell discover the truth behind the Galaxy S4's specs and appearance? We'll all just have to wait until the next episode.
