'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Countdown Begins; It's Not Getting A Sequel

The countdown for one of the most awaited movies of the year has begun as everyone cannot wait to see the new “Star Wars” movie titled “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. It will be latest and most likely the last movie from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures for the year 2016 unless they have something else up their sleeve.

Rogue One” is set to premiere in theaters all over the US and Canada on Dec. 16. But it will be released a day earlier, Dec. 15, in the UK and other certain European countries just like what happened last year with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Worldwide release is most likely set to coincide with the release date of North America.

With only two weeks before the release of the upcoming Disney movie, avid fans are gearing up by polishing on their knowledge about the “Star Wars” universe. The film revolves around the story that takes place after the establishment of the Galactic Empire. At that time, the Rebel Alliance recruits the protagonist, Jyn Erso, giving her a mission to steal the Death Star, which is the Galactic Empire’s new superweapon.

“Rogue One” is set in the timeline after the 2005 movie, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”. The film is the first standalone movie from the “Star Wars” anthology and will feature an original story. The movie will not cross with the stories of the sequel trilogy and with that said, it has been said that there will probably be no sequel for the upcoming “Star Wars” standalone movie.

This notion comes from the fact that the movie’s story is set between two movies and the trailers have revealed that the production is keen on giving the whole story in just one film. Darth Vader and Mon Mothma will return for the movie and fans already know what happened to the latter. Regardless of whether the movie may or may not have a sequel, it is predicted to be another box office hit.

Disney is already off to a great year end with its latest movies making incredible box office records. “Doctor Strange” and “Moana” have both been greatly acclaimed especially on their premieres that the anticipation with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, Disney might just smash Universal Studios’ annual box office record. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, and Ben Mendelsohn and is set to debut in cinemas in two weeks.
