Watch Dogs 2 Review: Critics Singing Praises To Sequel

Watch Dogs 2 is the kind of game (or sequel perhaps) that no one would expect something big out of it. Instead, many believed that it'll have the same fate as the original title. Call it whatever, but the second installment from Ubisoft is actually earning a good reputation in the market. It turned out to be an amazing game after all.

Before the first installment was released in 2013, fans thought that it was going to be a hit. Well, they can't be blamed really. That's because Ubisoft painted the wrong picture, giving the community a false hope. As what my co-writer would say, the original game was like the No Man's Sky of that year.

In one of their demos during that time, Watch Dogs was believed to have been played using a high-end PC. So, as a result, it featured cool, acceptable graphics. However, when release time came, it turned out to be a crap especially when played using consoles. Fortunately, these were corrected in Watch Dogs 2.

Think of the sequel as Ubisoft's way in correcting their wrongdoings. It features a new setting, a world that's basically in San Francisco. Here, players will take the role of Marcus Holloway, a hacker prodigy who later joins a group called Dedsec. The latter's goal is expose the city's weakness in terms of infrastructure.

Now, let's get into the brass tracks and see what critics are saying about the game. Hold your horses and grab those popcorns.

First off is from The Daily Telegraph, giving praise to Watch Dogs 2 like it's a result of a divine intervention or something. The publication cites the game's setting as a "gorgeous playground." And if compared to the first one, it's a notch higher definitely. Remember that the original game featured Chicago.

Others also suggest that the sequel has perfectly captured the San Francisco flavor. And unlike its predecessor, the second installment isn't afraid to give players the freedom they need. Here, fans are able to go to wherever they want and start from the get-go (or anywhere they like) at will.

As for its gameplay, Digital Spy points out that Watch Dogs 2 is a sure winner. If hacking in the original game was a bit unsatisfying and lacking (in terms of control), these have been met in the sequel. Tons of options are given to players, allowing them to even more enjoy the game. Heck, they can be as creative as they can thanks to these choices.

But if there's one thing that the game excels highly at, it's no other than the characters. GameSpot notes that the arrival of a new protagonist gave the franchise a fresh new look. He's the kind of guy who, despite having so much hate in corruption, wouldn't think twice when it comes to murdering opponents. His contradictory personality is something that brought the title to a whole new level.

This characterization is actually significant, especially for a game that thrives in the shadow of the past (original title). So, it's safe to say that Ubisoft really did a great job at correcting this element. Because seriously, the previous one didn't entirely make to the jump.
